Karl Lennartz;

born 19.03.1940 in Aachen; 1960-1966 studied in history, geography, sports, history  of arts and education science at the universities of Bonn, Göttingen and  Cologne; 1968 Dr. phil.;
1967-1980 assistant lecturer and university lecturer at the teacher training college of Bonn and Cologne;
since 1980 sports historian  at the German Sport University Cologne;
1989-2005 director of the Carl and Liselott Diem-Archives (Olympic Research Institute of the German Sport University  Cologne), Habilitation in Sport History at the Sport University Cologne, retired in 2005;
author of more than 30 books concerning the Olympic Movement and of more than 200 scientific papers in professional journals (many substantial) and in addition of several books and essays on Carl Diem and on distance running;
since the end of the eigthies, cooperation in several study groups of the International  Olympic Committee;
since 2002 member of the Commission for Culture and Olympic  Education; member of numerous national and international historical and sport  historical organisations;
founder member of the International Society of Olympic Historians, 1996 member of the board of directors, 2000 vice-president, 2004 president;
since  2003 – together with Dr. Stephan Wassong – editor of the journal  Journal of Olympic History;
board member of the organisation of German Sport Historians;
2003 founding president of the German Society of Sport Museums,  Sport Archives and Sport Collectors;
for many years instructor for coaches; coach for long distance runners (over 10 German championchip winners and several german, european and world record holders);
himself marathon and ultra distance  runner;
awards: 1991 Federal Cross of Merit, 1997 Olympic Medal, 2006 Federal Cross of Merit first class;
since 1972 member of the Town Council of Sankt Augustin, chairman of the comission for culture, sport and leisure; 2003/04 Vice Mayor of Sankt  Augustin;
since 1964 married with Ingrid Lennartz (teacher), 3 children, 4 grandchildren.
